Dinner is Served
Dad sent this to me a few weeks ago. I thought those of you out there who are birders would appreciate it. We are not sure if it is a Cooper or a Sharpshinned (size is one of the only distinctions and without any reference, it is hard to tell). Michael has tossed out the idea that it might be a Merlin. Anyone have any ideas? Whatever species, I think these are pretty cool shots.
Also, what's with my obsession with food lately?

Probably a Sharpie. They're more common than Cooper's hawks and the Merlin falcons. Most of the time when I've seen sharpies, they've been eating or attacking small birds. Sharpies seem to enjoy eating juncos.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture!
Incredible shots. Was this in your backyard? I especially like that you posted it fullsize so that I can use it for wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteDad took the photos from the side porch looking north. It is next to the lilac bush. The posting it as a fullsize picture was a happy accident - glad it worked out for you.
ReplyDeleteI was leaning toward the sharpie myself, thanks for the help, Bill.
